COVID-19 International Travel Guidelines

For Adult Arrivals

The guidelines for international arrivals coming to India have been reviewed & formulated, taking a risk-based approach. The Government of India has amended the protocols for international travellers in the following manner. It has mandated that:

  • Effective 1st Jan. 2023 (1000 hours IST), all international passengers arriving/ transiting from high-risk countries must mandatorily self-declare on the Air Suvidha portal.
  • A negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report conducted within 72 hours of undertaking the journey from any of the high-risk countries must also be uploaded onto the Air Suvidha portal.
  • The 6 high-risk countries are China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Japan.
  • People transiting from the high-risk countries without crossing immigration don't need a negative RT-PCR to enter India.
  • All precautionary measures instituted inside the airplane and at the airport (wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing) must be followed.

2% of passengers per flight will be randomly tested upon arrival at the airport. If they are found to be symptomatic or tested positive, they will be managed as per the standard protocol defined by the COVID-19 latest update.

* Some countries exempt Indian citizens who are fully vaccinated with nationally or WHO recognised vaccines. Travellers from such nations are allowed relaxation under the certificate of completing the full primary vaccination schedule of COVID-19 vaccination.

For Passengers Travelling with Kids

Kids under twelve years of age are exempted from both pre-departure and post-arrival random testing. However, if they reveal signs of coronavirus upon arrival or during the self-monitoring period, they will have to undergo testing. If the results are positive, the kids will be treated according to the laid down protocol.

COVID-19 Guidelines for International Flights

  • During the journey, announcements regarding COVID-19 precautionary measures should be made at the airport and on the plane.
  • The in-flight crew needs to make sure that COVID-19 appropriate behaviour is being followed.
  • If a passenger displays signs of COVID-19 during the journey, he will be isolated as per the protocols.
  • Announcements regarding testing requirements and travellers who need to undergo the exam to avoid crowding at the arrival airport should be made at the airlines.
  • The passengers need to de-board, ensuring physical distancing. At the airport, the health authorities will request to see the self-declaration form and carry out a thermal screening.
  • If any passenger shows symptoms during the screening, he will be isolated as per the laid down guidelines. If he tests positive, his contacts shall be identified and managed according to the laid down protocol.
  • 2% of the passengers will be randomly tested at the arrival airport, after which they will be allowed to leave. The samples will be further sent for genomic testing if they test positive. The COVID-19 treatment for such flyers will be provided according to the latest/ updated standard protocol.
  • Passengers need to self-monitor their health for the next 14 days. If they develop COVID-19 symptoms, they need to self-isolate themselves and immediately report to their nearest health facility.
  • International passengers arriving through seaports/ land ports would undergo the same procedure as mentioned above, except the online registration facility is unavailable for such flyers at present.
  • These people must submit the self-declaration form to the authorities at the seaports/ land ports on arrival.
